Fed: $5.8m in grants to child abuse prevention groups
CANBERRA, Feb 2 AAP - Child abuse prevention groups across Australia received nearly
$6 million in federal grants today.
Community Services Minister Larry Anthony said in a statement that the Early Intervention
Parenting Projects would provide a variety of vital support services over two years.
He said about $600,000 of the $5.8 million package would help the National Association
for the Prevention of Child Abuse to continue its work in the area of child abuse prevention.
The funding would also provide parenting courses, home visits by professionals and
volunteers, play groups, outreach services and family support, he said.
"Prevention and early intervention are key elements in the government's stronger families
and communities strategy and we will continue to help families provide a safe and healthy
home life for their children."
