NSW: Compensation claim over club shooting settled out of court

SYDNEY, April 22 AAP - A man who was fighting to win damages from the former owners
of a Sydney nightclub after he witnessed a shooting there has settled the matter out of
court.

Philip Antony Cropper, 39, claimed in the NSW Supreme Court that he suffered from post-traumatic
stress disorder after the shooting at Oxford Street's DCM nightclub five years ago.

Mr Cropper was drinking at the club about 6.30am on September 12, 1999, when a female
acquaintance he was talking to was shot.

He was seeking a six-figure sum from DCM's then-owners, Blavy Holdings, in the court.

However, Mr Cropper's credibility was called into question during cross-examination
yesterday by counsel for Blavy Holdings, Warwick Reynolds.

The cross-examination was due to continue today, but Mr Reynolds told Justice Jeff
Shaw that the matter had been settled out of court late yesterday.

Mr Cropper was not in court for today's proceedings.

The terms of the settlement are not to be disclosed.
